When should you worry about a speech delay?

Late talking is common, but some delays need speech therapy in Lahore. Milestones, red flags and how to get help.

By Foundations First, Clinical team

How much speech is typical in the first years?

Many toddlers say first words around 12-18 months and combine words by age two, but ranges vary. Bilingual homes may show slightly different timing. Worry grows when there is little progress over several months, not a single slow week.

What might suggest a speech delay?

  • No words by 18 months, or vocabulary not growing
  • Speech that family cannot understand most of the time
  • Not following simple instructions for their age
  • More pointing or pulling you than using words
  • Frustration or tantrums because they are not understood

Could it be autism or hearing?

Speech delay has many causes: hearing loss, oral-motor differences, autism, or simply needing structured help. A speech-language assessment and, when needed, broader developmental screening clarify the picture instead of guessing.

How does speech therapy in Lahore help?

At Foundations First, speech therapy uses play and motivation to build sounds, words and conversation. We link with autism or occupational services on the same team when needed.
